BRICS The Peace and Security

Peace and Security is part of the BRICS’ first Pillar (Political and Security). At its BRICS Summits annually through its declarations, BRICS recognizes that instability and global insecurity tensions escalates with very limited intervention from the paralyzed UN Security Council. BRICS therefore calls for the reformation of the UN Security Council.

This COP aims to sustain a global awareness campaign on the threats to international peace and security emerging from hegemonic influences of the West while providing research-based novel frameworks of pursuing and fostering regional and international peace, which are rooted in a multilateral and multipolar worldview, and conscientious stewardship of the entire creation

Engage scholars in the Global South and the expanded BRICS are called upon to rethink peace and security in the age of anthropogenic climate change and new “cold wars”;

Conduct research on peace and security, with emerging researchers and postgraduate students on the expanded BRICS’ challenges such as inter-nation cooperation, and identity cleavages that sustain international and regional tensions, and disseminate the outputs via webinars, conferences, and scholarly publications

Aim:

Furnish its members with a sense of academic belonging and purpose to pursue and fulfil its objectives;

Provide support to members in their scholarly endeavour, in their activities where they are involved in, domestically and internationally, and where they share experiences, resources, skills and knowledge with each other that intend to promote peace and security;

Share existing knowledge on issues of peace and security, particularly in the expended BRICS and the Global South;

Work in collaboration with institutions around the globe that are driven zeal and determination to solve emerging problems that affect the contemporary world, particularly the global South’s economy, peace and security;

Striving to invent new practices that promote a more equal, fair and peaceful world;

Devise new strategies based on research and critical thinking, and utilise a collective voice that would help towards revolutionising the traditional thinking about world order (unipolar and bipolar) to the multipolarity of the emerging world order
